Souls at Rest

I was delighted when the author approached me with a request to design her book cover. She had in mind a cover showing a sun over a landscape with a path. I found this stock image and thought the brushwork made for a relaxing backdrop for the title, while the coloring added some pop. I wanted to drape a figure in a more ornate “S” and so found another stock image of a dancer sitting on the floor. With a little tweaking of her limbs, head tilt and building up of her skirt to drape the way I needed, I tucked her into the letter in Photoshop. The cover turned out better than either one of us expected and it remains one of my favorites to this day.
