- My Life with Mother Angelica Book Design
- My Life with Mother Angelica Back Cover and Inside Spreads
This book design was a delightful project. The nun, who was the best friend of the incomparable and well-known Mother Angelica, had written a book about her days in the cloistered monastery with her, which as I recall was out of print. My client, working for the Poor Clare nuns, provided text and an abundance of photos along with sketches, poetry, and pencil, ink and pastel drawings from the hand of the Sr. Raphael to be compiled into a new book. This nun created so much art sitting at her small desk, so I wanted to make a cover design that brought that reality to the story. I found a stock image of the desktop with old books and manipulated it and composited it with the photos, writings and shots of my own fishing lure (changed to look like Mother’s) and peanuts, both of which figure prominently in the story. There was a great deal of Photoshop work and color correcting to unify the shot, but hopefully the detail provides a fun sneak peek into what lies inside even before opening the cover.
